ROBINSON THE BEST MAN TO LEAD UNIONISM

Alex Easton and Peter Weir, DUP Assembly Member(s) for North Down has said that Peter Robinson has his/her/their full support as leader of the DUP. The MLAs said they were not surprised that political opponents would seek to use a personal family tragedy to try and hound Mr. Robinson from public life.

Speaking today Peter Weir and Alex Easton said:

“Peter Robinson is one of the foremost political strategists in Unionism and in his leadership of Unionism he stands head and shoulders above anyone the other parties has to offer. Mr. Robinson has devoted his life to securing Northern Ireland’s place inside the United Kingdom and making Northern Ireland the best part of the United Kingdom in which to live.

Mr. Robinson has offered a stout and resolute defence of his position. He totally rejects the single allegation made by the Spotlight programme against him. Indeed, he has even asked to be investigated by both the Assembly and Westminster. Both these investigations will take months. Legal action against Spotlight, which is still open to Mr Robinson, could take years. He should not be tried by media.

Peter commands the unanimous support of the DUP rank-and-file membership and enormous section of the wider the community. We are happy to pledge our support to Peter at this very difficult time for him and his family. Those seeking to exploit this personal family tragedy for political ends should cease and desist from such nasty tactics”, said the MLAs.
