Weir welcomes bin changes on North Down

"I welcome news that the Council has agreed to change its bin collection policy to ensure the separate collection of food waste to be collected alongside the green bins. As a result of this, this collection including the green bins, will take place on a fortnightly basis throughout the full year from 2010, instead of the current practise of collecting green bins on a seasonal basis.

Having been contacted by a number of concerned constituents, who did not believe that the timing of green bin collections did not go late enough in the year, I put down a notice of motion to extend the period of the year that green bin collections. I am delighted to see that Council officials have responded by going further than even I had requested. This is a major step forward, and in light of these developments I am more than happy to withdraw my motion."
