WEIR COMMENTS ON BELFAST LOUGH FIRE

DUP MLA for North Down and member of the Assembly’s Environment Committee has commented on the fire onboard a fishing vessel which is drifting in Belfast Lough.

Commenting Mr Weir said, ‘I would praise the speed of reponse from the Emergency Services to this fire and actions of those onboard the Amity vessel who rescued the crew from the Bellatrix when it caught fire.

There will obviously be concerns about possible pollution from this fire and to the safety of people along the shore in the nearby area because of the gas canisters onboard. Hopefully the situation can be resolved safely and with the minimum damage to the local environment.’
