Councillor Peter Weir MLA has today hosted the new Social Development Committee Chairman Councillor Simon Hamilton MLA as they discussed the Town Centre regeneration plans for Holywood and Bangor, meeting some the key players involved in these plans. This follows a number of meetings with a number of North Down community workers in recent weeks. Speaking today the North Down DUP MLA said:

DSD

“The purpose of this visit was to allow the new Social Development Committee Chairman to see the work of the Department of Social Development on the ground in Northern Ireland and to meet the local people that are working with DSD. It is an opportunity to see the good things that DSD are doing but also to see where there are problems, allowing the Chairman to have an idea of the work of the Department as a way to guide his work in the Committee.

The Town Centre regeneration projects in Bangor and Holywood are central to the future of these towns, providing a much needed boost and providing jobs in the current economic downturn. The Town Centre is the heart and soul of any town, which is why regeneration of Town Centre’s is so important. Aiding in the regeneration of Bangor and Holywood Town Centre’s is a key aim of my work in North Down and I would urge DSD to press ahead with the plans at the soonest possible opportunity”
