ROAD PROBLEMS ON MEADOWBANK AVENUE MUST BE TACKLED

Cllr Weir at Stormont

“Having been contacted by constituents about the road problems in Meadowbank Avenue in Donaghadee, I have had the opportunity to visit the site first hand and see the problems directly. The road has been left in an appalling condition, with mud and dirt everywhere, and the residents concerns are well founded. It is simply unacceptable to leave residents in this position, particularly as this is the position that they were left in all weekend. I have spoken to the developer who indicated that they were let down by the street cleaning company who were supposed to do the work on Friday, and he has given me assurances that the road will be cleaned this morning. While this is to be welcomed, this does not provide a full solution for residents. Street cleaning in effect only washes the dirt and mud down the drains, which are in danger of getting clogged. Residents are also seeking assurance that the use of this street by heavy vehicles will not lead to subsidence, and also that no development will go ahead of permitted planning development. I will be pursuing these issues with both the developer and Planning Service, as the very least residents deserve is safe and relatively clean streets.”
