Speaking after a visit to Denroy Plastics in Bangor
“I welcome the opportunity to visit such a long established and successful company as Denroy Plastics, along with Ministers Nigel Dodds, Arlene Foster and local MLAs Peter Weir and Alex Easton. Denroy has made significant contribution to the local economy, and although like most firms it has felt the pressure of the recession, it is currently delivering on a range of contracts. They add value to Northern Ireland through the export of their products, and they are exactly the type of company that we need in Northern Ireland. On the visit we had both the opportunity to see the production processes on the factory floor, and to discuss with members of the company the wider economic situation.
The DUP are the most committed pro-business Party in Northern Ireland. We made the economy the top priority in both the budget and the Programme for Government. We have kept the Regional Rate for Businesses at zero increase and we have frozen the Manufacturing Rate. There is a vital role to be played at Europe. Successful companies such as Denroy cannot be held back by mountains of red tape, most of which comes from Europe. As an MEP I will work with my colleagues to continue to press for a business friendly environment to allow our companies to flourish.”
