“I welcome the opening today of the new Community Centre for Donaghadee. Having had the opportunity to tour the new building, I believe that it is an excellent facility that will be of great benefit to the people of Donaghadee. The multi purpose centre can accommodate a range of activities through the numerous rooms, and these rooms can be adapted in terms of size to enable useage from exercise activities to crèche facilities and community meetings. The modern building is a far cry from the somewhat tired building that it has replaced. Most importantly, it has the flexibility to be able to be adapted to meet the future needs of local residents , as both need and resources allow, in terms of expansion.
Many in Donaghadee in the past have had concerns over whether they have been a forgotten town by Ards Council, but today’s opening shows the commitment of the Council to the people of the area. Ards Council are to be commended for their investment. While the internal layout will not what everyone wants, it is important to realise that the building was designed after careful consultation with the community, reflecting the overall consensus of the community. I commend this new facility and would encourage local residents to view the new centre and make use of it at the earliest possible activity.” |
