Stormont
Cllr Weir at Stormont

"I am delighted at the decision taken tonight by the Leisure and Tourism Committee of North Down Borough Council to place additional signage and gating at the car park at the Sportsplex. I have been contacted by a number of residents who are concerned about the abuse of the car park as a gathering point for boy and girl racers, who then zoom along the Old Belfast Road causing both danger and disruption for local residents. The solution offered will protect the use of the playground and the Sportsplex, while ensuring that residents are protected as best we can from this anti social behavior.

It is clear that this has still to be ratified at full Council, and in the mean time there will further work on the details by officers to ensure that there are no adverse implications for genuine users of Ballykillaire. I am confident that these implementation issues can be swiftly and satisfactorally resolved. I believe that residents will welcome this action as a positive step forward. "
