North Down DUP MLA Councillor Peter Weir has today welcomed the launch of the new Warm Homes Scheme by the Minister of Social Development. The scheme helps low income families deal with the problems of fuel poverty, by helping them to make their homes more energy efficient. The scheme is particularly aimed at people on benefits who currently have no central heating, solid fuel heating or Economy 7. Speaking today the DUP MLA said:
“The launch of the new Warm Homes Scheme is to be greatly welcomed. The Scheme brings much needed financial relief to those people who suffer the most from fuel poverty. This new scheme brings new impetus to the important work already done by the scheme.
Since its inception in 2001, the Warm Homes Scheme has provided assistant to over 70,000 homes to help them with a wide range of measures to alleviate fuel poverty by improving their energy efficiency. I welcome any assistance that we can provide to those in our society who need it the most.
To find out more information or to apply people can call the new Warm Home Scheme telephone number on 0800 988 0559 or if they can call my office on 91454500 for further assistance. I would encourage people, that if they think they could be eligible for the scheme, to contact the Warm Homes Scheme to explore if they meet the criteria.” |
